Dermal Fillers

What you think is solely caused by ageing could actually be caused by underlying volume loss, which can happen at any age and for many reasons. We all know that our faces change over time. When we’re young, our cheeks, jawline and upper face in particular, are full of volume and well defined. It’s this volume that gives our faces their “youthful curves”. It’s this loss of volume that causes our face to change its contours and for fine lines & wrinkles to appear, which is part of the natural ageing process.

At Burnside Cosmetic, Dr Chris offers a range of temporary gel fillers to rejuvenate your skin, replace your lost volume, enhance your contours or augment your lips.

Sometimes it’s a genetic disposition, and sometimes regular strenuous exercise can deplete a person’s fat pads in their face. Dermal fillers are designed to replace and restore your body’s own natural tissue. These fillers are injected into the layers of the skin to assist its hydration by attracting and holding water. They also help restore collagen and elastin to give your skin both structure and support.

Dermal Fillers have become sophisticated as they have evolved. Today, they can be used for anything from very superficial work through to situations where deeper volume is needed.

They can refresh facial contours that have weakened with time, soften lines and wrinkles, correct asymmetries and restore facial balance. Dermal fillers also restore fullness to lips.

Mid-face (Cheeks) – Dermal fillers can be used to contour the cheeks and restore volume loss in the mid face or in the tear troughs. The appropriate dermal filler (and there are many) can also highlight cheekbones. If the mid face is properly supported naturally or with dermal fillers, then the lower part of the face is less likely to sag and you are less likely to see marionette lines or deep nasolabial folds.

Lower Face – Dermal fillers can also be used to improve the fullness of the lower face and soften nasolabial folds (the lines between the corners of the mouth and the nose). Sagging corners of the mouth and marionette lines can be treated with dermal fillers. When placed in the face, dermal fillers can provide the supporting structure to stop a mouth looking downturned. Sometimes dermal fillers alone are the appropriate treatment for the lower face and sometimes a combination of laser treatment or cosmeceuticals are recommended for the best result. There are so many options at our fingertips and at Burnside Cosmetic, you will be offered the best advice at your facial rejuvenation consultation with our doctor.

Dermal Fillers for Lips – Did you know that we all lose volume in our lips as we age? Volume and fullness to thinning lips can be restored with dermal fillers. This treatment can also create a more defined outline to the border of the lips. The vertical lines around the border of the lips and mouth (smoker’s lines) can also be treated. Most clients at Burnside Cosmetic are after a natural but fuller look to their lips, or giving them more symmetry or hydration. To achieve a natural subtle look to your lip filler treatment, sometimes it needs to be a process, where you will come in a few times to achieve your ultimate cosmetic result. Remember that it also depends on the shape of your natural lip, the size of your mouth compared to the rest of the face, and how much lip you have to start with that determines the treatment plan.
